Essential oils and constipation

Stories we have collected from people who have used high quality essentials to support individuals with constipation.
I have had digestive issues my entire life. 2-3 weeks in between is "normal" for me. I recently started ingesting 3-5 drops of Digestive Blend and 3-5 drops of Fennel oil and I am going twice a day!!!! It has been wonderfully helpful. Lots of water too.

I have chronic constipation and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Mine is under control by Digestive blend, Digestive Enzyme Complex and high quality supplements. I do drink water all day long and take Detoxification capsules 2x daily. Also, use cypress on the rectum reflex point on my feet daily and cypress + geranium directly on the rectum when hemorrhoids are in a flare up.

My 11-year-old daughter has had tummy issues her entire life. She's even had to be admitted to the local children's hospital due to her completely messed up colon.  My daughter has slow motility as well as mega colon. I can't remember the scientific term. Anyways- chronic, chronic constipation. Enough that she can't eat and pukes sometimes.
Every night, she can't eat dinner because her stomach hurts too bad. I talked her into taking a couple drops of Digestive Blend a few weeks ago. I just put a few drops under her tongue and she drinks a big glass of water.  She didn't like the taste but has asked for it every night. Tummy problems are going away! We've tried everything for her and this is what works. Amazing! We also do Grounding Blend and Invigorating Blend (suffers from severe depression) and she's like a new kid within an hour!

We used Miralax for a long time with my son, but then I got scared of using it. We are now using Digestive Blend, rosemary and lemon on him for constipation, and lavender and Balance for his emotional issues.

Digestive Blend used topically on tummy has helped my 2 yr old nephew with occasional constipation.

Essential Oils For Constipation:
  • black pepper, rosemary, basil, lemon, peppermint, marjoram, Digestive blend, ginger, fennel, orange, rose, sandalwood.
  • For any combo of the above oils dilute and apply to abdomen. Add 1-2 drops to 1 TBS fractionated coconut oil and massage. If you are using a couple drops from different oils and diluting for a child just add another TBSP coconut oil.
  •
    Recommended combinations for constipation:
  • black pepper and fennel mixed with coconut oil
  • rosemary and marjoram.
  • 2 drops of fennel, 2 drops of peppermint, 2 drops of Digestive blend in a capsule.
  Acupressure Points for Constipation:
  • You can hold points or rub in circular motion for 10-15 seconds with any above essential oil.
  • Large Intestine 4 – This is a number one point for dealing with constipation. Located on the top of the hand, on the web where the thumb and the index finger meet. Avoid this point if pregnant.
  • Large Intestine 11 - This point doesn’t require much pressure. Rub this point in a circular motion, and you can use it for relief during an uncomfortable bowel movement. This point is on the crease of your bent elbow.
  • Hara Point - This point is situated two inches below the belly button and is also considered a very vital point to be stimulated for constipation. This point should be stimulated using the index, middle and ring finger, by applying pressure only till tightness is felt near the point. The pressure should be maintained for 30 seconds. The pressure can either be applied through constant pressing or by circular motions with light pressure on the point. The stimulation of this point has profound effects on the overall functioning of the digestive system. It relieves abdominal cramps, relieves constipation and even reduces flatulence. Avoid this point if pregnant.
 Abdominal Massage for Constipation:
  •  Before starting this or any massage with your child set a comfortable environment for them. This is something you want them to look forward to and be comfortable with. Dim the lights, you can play soft music and make sure the room is warm. Set a healing, loving intention and talk to your child about what you are going to do. You can cover their bottom half with a blanket and keep their shirt on if needed pulling it half way up. A nice lead into the massage if you have the time is to have them take a warm bath with some lavender or other calming essential oil. Have your oil blend mixed ahead of time for the massage. Make sure your nails are cut or be aware so they are not jabbing them and warm your hands up. For some children they are going to love it immediately and others it could take some time getting them used to the idea.
  • Have your child lie face up on a comfortable surface. Preferably with knees up and resting against each other and feet hip width apart. This ensures the back is flat and in a neutral position so the belly can relax. If this is not possible for your child, that is fine and they can just lie flat and you can place a pillow under their knees for support.
Step 1 – Always connect with your child and get permission from your child. Talk to them and let them know what you are about to do. Rest one hand on their lower belly and the other on their heart center. Connect with their breath, breathing with them for 5 breathes. Continue to deep breathe through the session and this will help them relax and breathe deeper as well.

Step 2 – Apply your oil blend in a clockwise motion around the abdomen massaging very lightly. Knead the stomach like a cat, alternate hands in a slow pumping rhythmic motion. Go slow and explore areas of tension.

Step 3 – Bring hands to the left side of their lower abdomen. Allow your fingers to sink into the tissue a couple of inches above the inner left hipbone then reach under the bone. Stretch the tissue toward the bellybutton. Scooping and stretching the tissue. Repeat 5 - 10 times and then do the same thing under the left ribcage stretching and scooping down towards the belly button. Move to under the right ribcage same stretching a scooping motion towards the belly button and last move down to the right inner hipbone scooping and stretching again up towards the bellybutton.

Step 4 – Start a circle clockwise motion and go around the entire length of the large intestine starting at the inner right hipbone. Go around and around 5 – 10 times with your palms of both hands.
Step 5 – Massaging the ileocecal valve. To locate the ileocecal valve locate top right hip and go in 2 inches and down 2 inches (this will vary from person to person and less for a small child) it feels like a marble under a pillow. It normally will feel tender for most; massage it in a rotary motion for 5 seconds. Then go up to the right upper arm with a closed fist and briskly stimulate for 10 seconds, don’t do more than 10 seconds.
Step 6 – Begin on the right side around the appendix area and massage in small circles in a single direction moving upward from the appendix to the abdominal area to right rib cage. Now continue massage in circles across to the outer point of the left rib cage. Massage down towards the groin area. During this part really take notice of any hard, congested or hot areas and spend a little extra time there. Back off pressure and go really light if child indicates discomfort. It will get less sensitive with time and you want this to be an enjoyable thing for them.
Step 7 – End with 3 more clockwise circles. Then rest your hands on the abdomen sending warmth into the abdomen.
Please remember to be gentle and patient, give the child time to be comfortable with you doing this. Even if you only get a minute done one day you can try again the next and slowly build. This is a good practice and habit for a lifetime and you are giving your child a wonderful tool that will help keep the colon stronger and healthier.
